A downloadable worldscape

Meat sizzles on a spit before a starving patron devours it whole. Something viscous and steaming pours into an ancient warrior's mouth, staining his armor, burning his flesh. Compound eyes blink from a wriggling entrée. A former pastor chokes on a mutton leg and the light goes out in his eyes; some bored server captures his soul in a glass bottle while his body keeps eating. One man passes out on his table, tongue lolling out -- a passing cook chops it off and slaps it in a stew. The oldest woman here raises a toast as she turns her teeth on new flesh. "The Feast is unending," she cries.

And she's right.

This is a hexcrawl for the game Hieronymus, by Laurie O'Connel, made for the Strange Worldscapes jam. It contains tempting food, hungry people, and spoilers for a Where's Waldo map.

The art used here is The Gobbling Gluttons from Where's Waldo? The Fantastic Journey by Martin Handford. It's not public domain, but I won't tell if you won't.

This is so fun. Like, yeah, of course you could do this....and why not Pieter Bruegel paintings? And why not I Spy pages? I know that's part of the premise of Hieronymus, but seeing the Where's Waldo page really put it in perspective for me: I, too, could make people crawl through these dense images and endure the narrative I make up for them. Thanks for making and sharing!

hey, thanks! it was fun making the mental shift during the jam from "i want a classic painting with a where's waldo vibe" to "wait, no i can just use a waldo page". happy to pass that attitude forward :)
